Current Webplugging: weezerisland ***************************************************************
In The Garage - weezer I've got the dungeon Master's Guide In the garage This song reminds me during my school years. I started listening to Weezer during form 2 while my friends were fascinated with 4U2C (well, actually me too, in the "who-the-hell-can-wear-clothes-like-them-and-get away with it?" kinda sense.) The first song I heard was Buddy Holly, I don't know when and where actually but they intrigue me. Who is this Weezer dudes and furthermore what are they so sad about. In first listening their song sounds like the typical song about broken heart and love lost. But further listening will reveal more. Buddy Holly for instance, some people might think it's a song about the 50's singer, Buddy Holly, and Mary Tyler Moore was his lover (Mary Tyler was actually the main actress for The Mary Tyler Moore Show, well duh) but in actually it's about the Vietnam war with Rivers (singer) asking the justification of their(the viatnamese) violent hatred towards the American e.g the lines "What did we ever do to these guys That made them so violent?" and Rivers again describing the typical features of a Viatnamese, e.g "Your tongue is twisted, your eyes are slit". See the point is, Weezer was different from the other band I heard on the radio during that time. They look, act and feel different. These are 4 geek guys that rawks. Granted, Rivers look like a guy who get beat up by jocks on the way to school, but hey, those jocks probably pumping gas for a living now. They know they are geeks but they aren't scared about it, they flaunt it. Rivers coulda been shouting "Yes we are geeks, but we make more money that you do!" after he wakes up every morning. Well, he could have. Back to the song above, In The Garage. It has all the recipe for all would be geeks. All geeks should be familiar the all the stuffs he says he have in the garage, dungeon master guides and 12 sided die (to play Dungeon and dragons with), Kitty pryde and nightcrawler were dolls (they are action figures, they are not dolls dammit!! made a geek joke there), he has poster of KISS (granted every teenager has poster but more of the boyband and britney kind) he worship them, yes, as KISS was depicted as dangerous (something that every geeks can only dream of). in this so call garage was where Rivers, Brian, Patt and Mikey (he's in a mental Institution now, replaced by Scott Shriner) practice their songs, play with action figures, and geek out every day. Hell, they probably smoke some pot (that part was supposed to be classified ;P ) and tell what the bullies did to them that day. They persevere, as they believe it is not wrong to being a geek, after all "the meek shall inherit the earth" don't they? Thanks to Weezer i'm not afraid to geek out in school (granted, I have many large size friends in school, think of it as a kind of failsafe device if the bullies actually decided they wanted to kick my ass) and I came ot fine didn't I? I talk about comics with my friends, make strategy guides for games we play, make our own comics(hah!) and actually have the time to study and have good grades. (The above paragraph sounds too much like a smartshop advertisement, eh?) Hey Weezer, this is one fan who'll sticks to the end. Now, after all that free plugging, where's my free cd's and t-shirts? well, You know my email. p/s: some people might argue that a true geek choose their parents basement as their abode, i agree, but come on, that an all different geek article altogether. ;P |
